How to Care for Your Carpet
We are always happy to answer any questions or concerns relating to your carpet(s). We will do our best to answer any questions you may have regarding cleaning, fringe fabrication, bug infestation, burn repair, edge repair, tapestry fabrication, or framing.
Daily Care
Once every 2-3 days, vacuum with the grain, and at the end, groom the coat of your carpet. Sticky tape is effective in the case of picking up lint or hair that is hard to remove. Once a month wet a towel under lukewarm water and wring it out. Going with the grain of the carpet, wipe over the whole surface. Twice a year, hang the carpet in a shady area and pound it to get rid of dust. Clean the floor that the carpet was lying on, and also make sure that the back of the carpet is clean.
When Your Carpet Gets Dirty
Wool has the unique ability to repel dirt. When you spill liquid onto the carpet, scoop it up with a spoon, and wipe it up as quickly as possible with a dry cloth. With a damp cloth, try to gently tap the area of the spill. Repeat this process two to three times.
In the case of silk, add benzene onto some cotton, and tap this onto the soiled areas. If a liquid has spilled onto your silk carpet, absorb the moisture using tissue paper and use benzene as described above.
To Extend Your Carpet's Life
Sometimes, it is advisable to change the direction or location of your carpet. This way, every surface area of your carpet will be evenly stepped on, leading to a longer life. With the movement of your carpet, the atmosphere of your carpet and your living area will change. If you have a piled area that is sticking out more than others, cut it to match the rest of the pile and do not pull on it.
Bug Prevention
If you place a rug in the same area for an extended period of time, this causes dust to collect. This encourages destructive vermin that eat the material that the carpets are made out of. Please make sure to avoid leaving your carpet in the same place for a prolonged period of time. Two or three times a year, during spring and fall, roll the carpet up, clean the front and the back of the carpet, and clean the floor as well. These steps will prevent bugs from getting into your carpet.
Prevention of Fading
Although the dyes used are highly light resistant, color fading will always happen after an extended period of time. Avoid placing the carpet in areas that expose it to direct sunlight. Try to change the direction of the carpet once a month. By doing these steps, the carpet can avoid uneven blotchiness due to the sun, and will instead appear evenly aged, which is desirable.
Storing Your Carpet
First, either bring your carpet to a professional carpet cleaner, or hang it in the shade and vacuum it. Next, if your carpet is big, put a core in the middle to avoid unnecessary folds, and roll it up with mothballs. Place this rolled up carpet in a bag, and store in an area that is dry, cool, away from direct sunlight, and well ventilated.
